20/02/14 - Thanks and Sunderland ...

In the aftermath of the Bayern Munich game, the main thing to say in this email is “thanks”. We thought (and we hope you agree) that the card display worked and looked fantastic – and gave both players and fans a real lift going into the game. It only worked that well because you all got involved – so thanks. Thanks for changing your normal matchday routine to get into your seat early; to all of those who dragged friends along too, or cleared a boozer of people around 7:15pm; or who shared our endless social media updates in the few days before the game. And of course our thanks to the bloggers, fanzines and other supporters groups who got involved to support and tell people about what we were doing. #goonerfamily

A couple of other things to say about the card display. Like the Spurs flag display, this helped prove to Arsenal that we CAN rally the fanbase to support initiatives like this when needed (and it being a big game helped, of course) – and therefore that these things are worth doing again. So, hopefully we can get more ambitious next time. And a final thanks to Arsenal for paying for it all – getting 57,000 cards onto seats is not cheap, but hopefully we can do it again some time!

So, on to the next one – Sunderland in the league. We will have the “49” flag out again before kickoff, and as ever, need volunteers to help move it across the lower tier. If you can help, please come to the front of block 6 at 2:45pm. We have been really short of helpers in previous weeks, so please don’t assume that we have enough people. #getinvolved

The Rocket will also be open from midday as usual, with Chelsea vs Everton on TV, and hot food available in the courtyard before the game. After the game, we have a special “thank you” present for you all – jugs of Carlsberg for a tenner, and Palace vs Man U on TV! We also have a new signing – cans of Tetley, for the real ale drinkers (and/or Northerners) among you.

That’s all for now – thanks again!

13/02/14 - Get in early for Bayern!

Two more home games coming up in quick succession, the second of which is the Bayern Munich game next Wednesday.

As many of you will already know, REDaction have been working with Arsenal to organise a card display for the Bayern game – covering the whole stadium with red and white cards. These are not cheap to organise, but they look fantastic when they work. However, the success absolutely depends on people being in their seats in good time before kickoff. We absolutely...

30/01/14 - Preparations for Bayern, and other news

Hi all,

A few things to tell you about this week, most notably about the preparations for the Bayern Munich home game.

But first, thanks to all who responded to our call to support Coventry fans in their protests at last week’s game. The response from Arsenal fans in the ground showed incredible class – and most importantly, helped Coventry fans draw considerable media attention to the issues surrounding their club. As a nice side effect, we now have a corner of the Midlands hoping Arsenal win the league!

We co-ordinated all of this by email and on...

22/01/14 - A message to all Arsenal fans ahead of the Coventry game

This Friday, we play Coventry City in the FA Cup, in front of a TV audience. Many of you will know that Coventry are experiencing a range of off the field issues at the moment - which mean they are playing their ‘home’ games in Northampton (35 miles away from Coventry). There is disagreement even among City fans about who exactly is to blame - but as is too often the case, the fans are the ones who suffer most. A good (and, as we understand, fairly balanced) article on the topic is
